Rpm's at idle
Rpm's at idle
Another question trying to learn the car. I converted the dual points to a single point and the reference I had said it should be set to 10 degrees advanced for timing. Everytime I set the timing I try for the 850 rpm's like the book calls out for but the rpm's will drop the only way it runs ok is when it is set at 2200 rpm which I know is high. I keep having to search for the proper setting on the rpm's but cant get it set to idle at 850 Ihave posted a surging issue as well and am wondering if the two issues are tied together. The timing marks are good.
Re: Rpm's at idle
i attempt to practice the 'go back to your last step' method. if you perform a procedure and things change...likely that the procedure caused the change. if the symptom predates the recently performed procedure, then the symptom most likely was not caused by your change.
so, did it idle at 850 rpms before you made your conversion? if not, changing points was not the cause.

Re: Rpm's at idle
I bought the car not runnning it did not have the points when I bought it. I have done some work to get it running which included tehepoints the previous owner had worked on the timing belt, coil but did not get to the points, I checked the timing marks and belt while doing the points and everything looked good. I have not been able to get it to idle at 850 since getting it to run.
Re: Rpm's at idle
What year car do you have and which carb is on it?
Is there an carb idle solenoid on the carb? Did you test it (remove wire while ignition on hear a click see a spark)
Is the carb nuts tighten down, did you check for other vaccum leaks?
Just my guesses from my own trial and errors. Good luck
