honing tool help
I have a dead cylinder and i am planning on honing it out all the cylinders and replacing all the rings. Im not sure what type or honing tool to get seems to me there are two choices the kind with three stones or the kind with many abrasive balls. Ive never done this but have asked some friends that have said its easy so im gonna give it a shot. Im also not sure what the right the right size to get is. Any help is appreciated.
Re: honing tool help
If the cylinder wall is reasonably smooth I would NOT hone it. If it is not smooth, it needs to be bored. Honing, once upon a time, was thought neccessary, and maybe it was, it no longer is neccessary. What IS required is to cut the ridge off above the piston BEFORE you remove the piston, you will need a ridge reamer, and you need to remove every bit of the ridge. If you have already removed the pistons WITHOUT cutting out the ridge, you may have already damaged the pistons. You will also need something to clean the ring grooves in the piston with, they make a tool for this as well.
Take your time and do it right,
