remote trunk opener
fussing with the idea of a remote trunk opener (no real reason, just seems...)
Aneone done this? Is there an obvious spot to mount the "pull" action to? Gave it a 30-second lookee-lookee, nothing came to mind...

Due to recent budget cuts and the rising cost of electricity, gas, and oil, we have decided to turn off the light at the end of the tunnel. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Re: remote trunk opener
I've fitted a cable operated boot release ('trunk release' to you North Americans) from a small Japanese sedan (sorry but I can't remember what model it was). The lever assembly is attached to the raised box section seat runner mount next to the transmission tunnel on the driver's side of the car (right side in Oz ) and the cable runs under the rear floor carpet then through the inner side panels and around the boot to the latch.
It's very convenient, but could be a security issue if a thief looked hard enough to find the release lever under the seat

I bought it used on Ebay, I think it was about $40.00.

Re: remote trunk opener
There was a post here about a year ago. Someone found a universal trunk solenoid on ebay for about $10. The problem is that I can't remember if the post was regarding the custom trunk opener itself or if someone locked their keys in their trunk and another member offered the solenoid as an alternative.

Re: remote trunk opener
I've seen the Sears one on eBay, don't recall the price...
Thx for the info. I think I like the manual seat-pull idea, might be a day at Pick-Yer-Part in store for me... or perhaps I'll do the electric, but hide the button under the seat.
Clever people out here, thx!

Re: remote trunk opener from 240Z
Yes!, I just did this to both my spiders. I was cruising the pick a part scrap yard and noticed a bunch of nissen 240Z's. Both I looked at had the same hatch release and looked about the same size as the spider so I got both. Works like a champ and exactly the correct legnth. I mounted mine in the same position as the 240 and also used the plastic finishing cover. I did have to drill a hole throught the double bulkhead on the right side corner of the battery box and fished the cable through then under the back seat and carpet to the mont position. Enjoy...
Re: remote trunk opener
Hi Jim,
Do you have any pic's of how you ran the 240z line? I'm curious how it looks? I would love to remove the trunk lock.

Re: remote trunk opener
No pics just yet as I just arrived home from picking up a second spider from vegas. Will take pics when I install on my second car this week...
Re: remote trunk opener
Great,
I look forward to installing this on my spider and removing the lock. Give details on the items used too please.

Re: remote trunk opener 240 Z installation pics
If anyone is interested in seeing how I ran the cable and latch for the Nissan 240Z trunk cable then visit my pics site from my profile. You will find them under modifications. The cable works perfectly but would have been better if six inches longer allowing a more circular install. When I get the paint job done I will probably add a short extension to the latch after better positioning the cable restraint.
