another mystery wire
another mystery wire
In continuing the basic restoration of the 78 I have a question concerning two wires that obviously go to the coil. It is a two wire harness coming off the main harness on the passenger side of engine compartment. It has a blue with red stripe and a red dot on the connector and another wire with black with a white dash. The wires run together, but have seperate female flat connectors. I assume that the blue goes to positive as it has a red dot on the connector. Another note of interest is that the tach does not function. I have looked over the wireing diagrams and can't find the answer. Ideas?

Re: another mystery wire
The coil wires should be
POS: Blue with Black stripe
NEG: Brown, and Green (to distributor)
Connected this way, the tachometer should work fine.
The two wires you mention are not connected to anything (and never have been).

Re: another mystery wire
Thanks for the info. I will double check it. The condensor goes on pos side?

Re: another mystery wire
I double checked the coil hook up and yes, brown is on NEG, a blue with black on POS , But no green anywahere is sight. I do see the green wires coming form the dist's dual points and going into the harness. Like I said though, the car seems to run fine. Curious.

Re: another mystery wire
Your green wires (one with black stripe) going into the harness is the original set-up, with dual points. In 1982 I converted mine to single points and simply ran a single green wire directly to the NEG terminal on the coil, bypassing the Ignition Mode Relay. It also runs fine and is easier to adjust when changing points.
