Rearend swap

Since I will have extra Oomph with my supercharger and tuneable fuel control I am thinking about changing to the 3:58 rearend from an automatic. I know that the late cars changed to a spicer type center section, did that change the driveshaft length? The late cars also used a different panhard bar. If I put a late rearend in an early(69) coupe what parts will/will not work?

halg, i did this with my spider already. you need the matching driveshaft for that rear end. its a little shorter or a little longer. cant remember. no its a shorter driveshaft for that rear end. my top end is way fun,

And you'll have to go with a like model panhard bar or make one yourself.

Is the driveshaft different because of the change in rearend styles or because of the automatic transmission? Remember the coupe driveshaft is different than the spider(longer wheelbase)Not a big issue for me. I just need to know what I will need to address.

from what i recall being told by mark, the rear end is actuall the different part. its a little longer

Halg,
I know this was posted about the rear end swap but I'm supercharging my spider. What are your specs and controller,FI or carb? I have a Volumex with Carb from Beta. I also have the 3.58 rear as this was close to the Volumex rear end ratio. I looked in the Performance area but I did not find your info there.

use a ford 8.8 from a pre 94 mustang gt. still has 4 lug but 108 instead of 98. Nobody will notice the difference except you.

Whats the point of the Ford besides a little more strength? Dont you need to narrow it and fab all new mounts? I would also redrill it to keep the bolt pattern. It would be so much nicer if someone figured out an independent rearend.

Ther is an independant rear on the Abarth but it is also a lot of work. I bought drawings from Guy Croft and few years ago and I looked at the feasibility. I had a differemtial from a BMW that was the core. I made the assetment that is was a lot of work for little gain. I chose to go the Volumex route for bang for the buck.
