Hello All
My name is Jim. Being a brit I have been a Brit car restorer for many years. I finally came to my senses a few weeks ago while searching for another ride to pretty up and compete in shows with. After many viewings and finding nothing worth while that still had body work in one piece. I came across a spider on ebay. Wow! why don't I just find one of those... such a cool car and remember drooling over them from my youth. So I began my search. I now live in Campbell River BC Canada with a second home in Las vegas. A desert car maybe? So I searched everywhere to find something in good shape at reasonable price. Nothing found. Then quite by accident I came across an old Craigs list add. What the heck I'll call it. Cut a long story short I am the new owner of 1980 Turin green Spider 2000 Fi that is totally original with 37K on the clock with records from new. Absolutely no rust or even a hint anywhere. Engine is smooth and very clean. So being the purist I am I will be rebuilding all of the mechanicles with new seals, rubber etc. The interior is original and perfect. However, I will strip and repaint to make it shine for concourse events.
My biggest dilemma is finding a mail order supplier in Canada for quick turn around. I have read this board and find it to be very helpful with great ideas and input. So everyone glad to be aboard.

Re: New member: SpiderJim
Hope I'm not confusing everyone, I moved Jim's intro into a seperate thread from meman124's to make it easier to welcome him.
So, welcome Jim! Congratulations on what sounds like a terrific car. It will be intersting to hear how you get along with your Italian car after the years of British cars.
Post some pics of your new car for us to admire, please.

Re: New member: SpiderJim
I'm confused to So SpiderJim is really just Ron's British alter ego?
I think I'll create my own alter ego on the site named ScubaSteve. I'll use him when I have a really dumb question and don't want to bruise my true ego . He'll drive a 1980 Spider (FI of course) in the Caribbean and love to ask allot of "why wont my car start" questions.
jk. Welcome to the site Jim .

Re: New member: SpiderJim
My alter-ego is named JungleGym, since he's built a play fort to be the envy of the neighborhood kids. My grandkids LOVE to come to Papa's house
So, ron/jim or SpiderJim... welcome to the site. please post pictures of your green/red 1980/1982 fiat Spider.

Krissy?
Oh yeah, my wife. Now I'm so confused I forgot for a moment.
Well Jim, you must be asking yourself what you got yourself involved with at this point.

Re: New member: SpiderJim
That brings back memories Jim. It's the same color combination as my first Spider, a 79 I bought in 1980. It was the car we used to go on our honeymoon. Sigh.
I still love that color.

Re: New member: SpiderJim - kermit
Thanks for the compliments. Yes it is in cherry condition but I will be bare stripping then painting it over the winter. I may go a little brighter using Aston Martin California Sage which is very close but more expensive looking by about 250K worth. We can only dream. That way the brit car club that is local here may allow me to go on rides with them..... kermit gets a new exhaust system on thursday and a complete front and back end rebuild with poly bushings when the weather turns cold and wet. He gets new wheels and rubber in the spring ready for the summer season along with the electrics cleaned and serviced. So will post pics as I do the work.
Thanks much jim
