Shift Knob
Re: Shift Knob
Now that is it dry it looks and feels really good. I will be coating yours tomorrow, Mike. It should be done by the end of the week. If you email me your address I'll mail it out to you hopefully by monday.
Im actually getting restless waiting for an intake manifold gasket from IAP. It the only part keeping me from having a running car. I ordered it 3 weeks ago and it was backordered. I think I will just have to purchase it else where because I really want to handle my new knob....

Re: Shift Knob

Re: Shift Knob
Well Mike, I guess it looks like the custom knob idea is out now that you have that cool cedar one. I still like the white one with the spider on it.

Great job carving that out by hand.NebraskaSpider wrote: I had to start over with a new one because the one I was working on before cracked right down the center while I was working on it. I think this one looks nicer though anyway. I just need to let it dry out for a few days, drill the hole and put in the thread.
One way to stop the wood splitting is to make the knob out of laminated layers of your chosen timber. This one was made from a local wattle (Acacia), but I cheated and used the lathe. The same timber can be seen on the console and behind the speaker grill - the speakers are in the footwell side panels

Wow! I really dig the look of that. The layers make it look really nice. I envy your lathe. I dont have one so it was to the widdling knife I went.

Re: Shift Knob
I do like it, but I it struck me that in that last pic ,with the shift boot up to its neck, that it looks like some sort of little alien in a long cloak
