New and considering a 76 spider, need some info
Hi, I am new to this site but am very interested in a 76 spider that a local is selling for $300. It needs a lot of work but I have done a few restorations so I am not real worried at this point. I have been reading a lot in the parts section and noticed people saying that the car they found does not have a title and therefore it will be a parts car. The car I am looking at also does not have a title because the car was abandoned at an auto shop and the shop just wants it gone. Is there issues with getting a lost title or getting the car registered without the title? Thank you for any advice you can give.

Depends entirely on where you are located. Every jurisdiction (Motor Vehicles Branch, or whatever) can have its own rules and processes. Here (in BC, Canada) it is not difficult, although a little time consuming. IMO, if you plan to buy it to restore, you'd better find out the facts first, or you'll be selling the rest of us a bunch of parts.

I live in Texas. He said the car ran fine after repairs and that the last time it was started was about 5 years ago when he took the distributor off to sell to another customer. The body is really straight. The interior needs to be completely replaced. And the paint is what you would expect for original. And there was only a little rust on the back lower quarter panel. Not any issues under the car. The only thing that concerned me was that the mechanic said he at one time he put a mechanics lien on the car until the owner payed. But the owner never came back so the car pretty much has sat since 1995. He said that he paid off the lien and had just never filed for the lost title. I assumed it would not be really that difficult.

Okay, I think I found the info I was looking for. From what I am reading in Texas you can file for a lost title with the bill of sale. Easy enough.
I just want to say I really like this forum. From what I am seeing there is a lot of great info here that will help me along the way with this project if I decided to dive head first into it.

Welcome to the forum hman. So, does that mean you'll be getting the car soon? It shouldn't be too difficult to get her back on the road again. Lots of owners picked up a car that had sat for around five years and were amazed to find no ill effects from it, myself included.
Good luck with it, let us know how it's going.
