New member from Salt spring Island!

Post by cosmo »

Hi everyone, I just bought an `82 pininfarina FI. black, with a red interior! Man what a sweet ride! She`s in pretty good shape , I`ve just dealt with the dreaded clutch cable/firewall problem, and understand that there are ongoing mech. and elec. things I`ll have to correct, as I plan to fully restore this sweet thing! I`ve wanted a spider [ p.s. is it spyder, or spider? ] for a long time, and the right combination of opportunity and money finally came together. I`ve really enjoyed reading everyone`s posts and have already benifited greatly from all the info kindly shared by the members of this forum. My mechanical skills are medeocre at best, so I`ll be relying on the good will and experience of the members for advice and instruction,`cause i`m gonna need it! :) P.S. pix to come, new computer, vista, older digital camera; not compatible! Will figure it out soon!

Welcome to the forum. Yeup lots of assistance in getting your spider sorted here. Was your purchase the one advertised on Craigslist?
Gonna have some fun on the roads on Saltspring,no shortage of corners and hills there. Perhaps we'll see you in Ganges, the better half and I will be in Chemanus Sept. 3-13.

Oh no! Not another '82! There are some here who think they are the best :?

Seriously, welcome to the forum. I hope you enjoy your Spider (correct spelling) as much as I have for 31 years.

welcome, Cosmo.

waiting patiently for the pictures. i understand about the old digitals... mine just decided to crap out after years of faithful service, six weeks before a daughter's wedding. now, on top of everything, i gotta go get a new camera, and learn how to use it in a hurry.

looking forward to seeing (yet another) '82 Spider.
just kidding. we welcome them all.

Don`t know if it was on craigslist, I just saw it in town with a for sale sign on it, and went ooooh, then I saw the price and went, hmmmm. 8) Took it for a ride, and went, aaaaah! The P.O. was reluctant to let her go,[ is it PC to say her? ] citing financial concerns and business obligations. He has done some work on it, although it`s clear he was only just getting started. I`ll have her up on a lift soon for an oil change, and will have the opportunity to poke, prod, shake, stare at, sniff, taste, fondle, and press my cheek against every thing I can reach! :D Will be making a list, hope it`s not too long! p.s. the P.O. was going to change out the tranny fluid with Royal Purple high performance trans fluid, synthetic, my supplier sez it`s rated gl4, according to the info I`ve been able read gl1 to gl4 is ok for the 5 speed man. trans. , is this true?

Welcome cosmo. I'm only a short swim  away in Sooke. You must have the only Fiat Spider on Salt Spring. We'll have to get together sometime.

Like the others are saying, don't put EP oil of any kind in that gearbox. You don't want to ruin all that lovely "yellow metal" in there. Call me anytime (250-664-6717).

Hi Launie, sorry for not posting earlier, busy driving 8) ! Would love to get together, will have some time in the last 2 weeks of sept. The Sooke highway is a great drive, having taken it on my way to Port Renfrew a couple of times. I`m sure you know all the best roads in the area, maybe you could show me some sometime!

Hi Cosmo,

Yes, I do lenjoy some of the roads around here. I even know a nearby ditch (in an earlier post I described how I lost control and hit the ditch - silly me - I'm more careful now).

Yes, let's somehow meet up later in September. In the meantime, enjoy your Spider. Mine always puts a smile on my face!
