1981 2000 FI. What is the size of the nut holding the steering wheel to the steering shaft? 20mm?

i thought it was 24 mm its been a while but i think that is the size .

There is a standard equivalant, I think its either 15/16" or 1 1/16" I can verify when I get home. Most local auto parts stores will let you take a socket out to the parking lot to verify it will fit before buying since most places have a no return policy for tools. You may have to leave them your license while you try it out.

Remember to scribe a line on the axle and wheel before removing, so that it points straight when you reassemble.

yeah, getting that alignment perfect w/out scribing the line is a PITA

As Daniel says, 24mm (or 15/16") fits the nut on my early spider. I would guess that they all have that size -- but that's a guess.
