Ron and Kristy made it to our home on Sunday and stayed until Monday Morning and then left to thier next stop which I will let Ron tell you about the whole trip when he gets back home in California ..

I want to tell you that he and his wife are two very special people and can stop by and stay with us anytime they want ..We had a good time togeather ,,we ate ,we shared stories , and we talked about Fiat Spiders ,,I now want another one ,,but it may take awhile because I want a 1985 or 1985 1/2.. Thats asking a lot isnt it > LOL

Just wanted to let you all know they are doing great and the car is running good also ..pulls the trailer like it wasnt even behind them he told me .. I am saying Thanks Ron for making our day with you and your lovely wife making a stop on your trip just to visit us.. LD and Diane

We've been looking into a small, teardrop type camper to pull behind the spider for a while now. This would make a great lightweight vacation outfit. Any advise on hitches or pictures of your setup would be great!

When Ron and Kristy get home and back on the forum ,,I am sure he will read your thread asking about his set up he has starting with his hitch assembly that is mounted to the rear of the car and also his well balanced trailer..

I just towed a 6X12 U-haul trailer a 1000 miles or more and I can tell you this much ,,make sure the weight is slightly more on the tonge than behind the wheels of anything you tow ..this will keep the trailer from swaying .. And another thing is to do the best you can at keeping the towed vehicle level with the car or truck you are towing with ,,This is done by haveing the correct drop on the reciever you use.. or in some cases ,,no drop .. straight across ..

Ron would be happy to share how he installed his hitch to his car and how his trailer towed behind him.. soon as he gets back hme and settled in from his vacation to the northwest ,, keep checking in ,, LD

Thanks LD. Coming from a fellow carpenter, I take your comments as a high compliment.
I did get a lot of "thumbs up" on the trip. One guy in a Porche Carrera in particular was very animated and grinning from ear to ear!

Of course, the design will only fit on the later tube bumpers, and I'm taking a chance that drilling the bottom tube for the bolt will expose raw steel, but I'm in the desert, so it's not a very big rust issue for me. I suppose if rust were an issue, some measure would have to be taken to seal the edges of the holes. If you, or anyone wants the measurements of the hitch, feel free to PM me and I'll get them.
The trailer is the Harbor Freight 40X48 model with 12" wheels. It's very lightweight and loaded has a tongue weight of only 40 pounds. I got 28 mpg on the trip while pulling it, and literally could not tell the difference with it behind me.
