More progress
I pulled the eng. Once I got it out, I realized how heavy it was and found myself unprepared. Now it sits here waiting for me to build a stand. I'll do that tomorrow. Here's some pic's.
Re: More progress
You're engine and tranny look surprisingly clean. Did you steam clean it, or was it really that clean?

The guy I purchased it from was a mechanic. He had already rebuilt the eng just before I purchased it. He cleaned it up. Still some of the paint is chipping and cracked . I don't think he prepared the surface completely. I want to make it look like new before I install it into the 81. This body is pretty bad.

That car you yanked the engine out of looks pretty good to me!

Re: More progress
The car I took the engine out of needs floor pans. There is only one rail of the seat brackets. The front shock towers have fiber glass on them. So I'm figuring they are rusted. the doors are rusted on the bottoms. There's rust in all the usual areas. I got the engine and trans media blasted today. I also primed them. It took 10 hours to prep, blast, and clean up.

Re: More progress
That engine looks like a ghost of its former self.
Doesn't media blasting everything (as a whole unit) cause some problems? Same with the total priming. Just wondering. But looks great.

Re: More progress
Well, it depends on what tip you use when you blast. I put some aluminum tape over the exhaust holes and such. They got hit with the blasting just as much as everything else. All it did was take some of the surface like the lettering off. I'm not worried about the gaskets because of the minimal amount of deterioration to the tape. I also checked the edges of the gaskets and they all looked fine. I media blasted the rear end and left it. It's now rusted again since I didn't prime it. I didn't want to have the same thing happen to the engine. I'm putting Eastwood's engine paint on the engine and tranny. I had to prime them to prepare for the paint. I used an engine primer rated to 2000*. If there is something I'm missing, please someone chime in.
Re: More progress
Almost done. Engine and trans painted with Eastwood's AlumaBlast.
Re: More progress
stop by my place with that spray outfit... i could use a little touch up!
Re: More progress
I tell ya,
If you looking for a good quality spray out of can, Rust Oleum has it. Their high temp primer was easy on the finger and very easy to get good coverage in any direction. I then used Eastwoods AlumaBlast and now I wish my finger would just fall off.
