I have a 1981 spyder with fuel issues. The car starts, then dies out. It acts like it can't get gas. this started happening after I changed gas tanks.
The fuel pumps runs when the starter is working but doesn't seem to work when the ignition is on. Is this a sign of a bad fuel pup? or bad fuel filter? or is it electrical?

Hello and welcome to the forum! There a few Fiats in the Dayton area.
You may have better luck getting technical help if you post your question in the engine and tuning section. Some people don't visit the introductions section on a routine basis. Good luck!

The fuel pump is activated when the engine is turning over, either by the starter or when it's running. It gets the voltage when the air flow meter flap is opened by intake air. Just turning on the key will not get voltage to it.
A common way to check if the fuel pump is running is to disconnect the air boot at the AFM and reach in and move the flap by hand with the key "on". You should hear the fuel pump kick in.
Did the car run OK before the gas tank exchange?
