Can anyone name it ? The tour guide told us that the roots have been found some 1 1/4 mile away from the trees trunk..

Yep it's a Banyan tree we have them all over here in South Florida, got a big one in my back yard. As far a roots a mile and a half away goes I would not buy a used Fiat from that tour guide if I were you.

By looking at its roots, I'd say its a fig tree

It looks like a banyan to me,also.Maybe a ficus? They had to cut a huge banyan in West Palm Beach,Fla that was a landmark.It had destroyed the sewers for two city blocks around it.

Looks like a Cypress Tree to me, we have them here on the coast and in Southern Florida.

Just asked my wife... she says it's a fig tree.

I didn't have a clue. Maybe if it were a species that had given me a sliver or two I'd have recognized it. I sure know redwood, pine, fir and oak!
