Hi from 8000 feet
Hi from 8000 feet
Just rescued 1978 Fiat 124CS1 from a fellow who thought is was English…only driven 2000 miles in last 12 years. Body is good, mechanicals…hopefully. Bought one off the showroom floor 30 years ago, can remember why we traded it for a pickup. Could have been the weather when we moved to 8000 ft. I will have issues, but it will be fun reliving my youth.

Hello, and welcome from 3000 ft.
You'll have to post pics of your new car for us to see.
Congratulations on getting her, and have fun reliving your youth. (As a lot of us are doing.)

Re: Hi from 8000 feet
Welcome .
Out of curiosity though, being a carb car, how or what does one deal with the altitude,or is it even an issue? I know when I lived at a ski hill years ago,I noticed the difference when I went for a run at 6000 feet compared to the valley at 1100 feet.

Re: Hi from 8000 feet, again
Quite a welcome, thank you. Yes, the car runs, pretty well actually and just over 58000 miles. Just spent 2 days cleaning it, the seat slide rails were frozen, took 4 hours to get them out and working. Did find things of interest under the seats…$1.54 in change and some old registration papers…seems it’s only been driven 2000 miles since 1997. Also discovered a new radiator, new disks, new distributor, new battery, rebuilt master cylinder and very little rust. The oil pan, however, appears to have had more than it’s share of encounters with curbs and rocks. Temperature remained normal on the 4000-foot climb to 8000 ft and its new home in Brighton, Utah. Didn’t really notice a performance decline from the altitude, but that might just be the low oxygen level in MY brain. Will make a few short test trips before the 150 mile run to Speed Week on the Bonneville Salt Flats in August.
