Post by mptreb »

Hi there.

I'm in Lexington, KY.

In 2005, we bought my wife a 1976 124 Spider for her birthday. It had about 60,000 miles, and had been partially restored when we bought it. I've fixed a lot of little faults, replaced the top, and installed leather miata seats. My wife found some late-70s MSW wheels in 4x98. She made a new mahogany dashboard, using the original as a template. I modified an original (NIB) Astrosonix AM radio to take an iPod line-in...

Cheers, all.

Welcome! Got any pics of your car? It's always nice to hear of the wives getting into keeping these cars on the road.

Hi Matt, welcome to the forum. I kind of pity you, my wife will go with me in the Spider, but she won't drive it, so I get to do all the driving. Come to think of it, if you want to drive it, do you have to ask to borrow her car?
We'd definitely like to see pics of it.

Hey Matt, sorry I cant make a comment about a wife I don't have, but I likely wouldn't have joined the forum until I noticed that there was another Kentuckian newbie here :)

By the way, know any others in our area? I've heard rumors of one in Bourbon County but have never seen it, and I know there is a '80 FI for sale in Fleming County that I meant the owner of last week but he hates the car.

But anyways I'd love to see some pic's so I know what to look for the next time I'm Lexington.

It's definitely cool that my wife loves the car. We got the Fiat because she was jealous of my MG. But now, we drive the Fiat a lot more than the MG. If she takes the Fiat, I can always take the MG. And she's already making plans to buy a 500 when they come to the US.

The Fiat is a better car for road trips -- 5th gear, bigger trunk, plus a luggage rack. Smaller tank and worse gas mileage, though, so more gas stops.

Here's a link to a pic... hope this works all right in this forum.

My wife is driving; this is taken looking back from my MG.

If you're in town & looking for the car... well, the only other Fiat I've seen in Lexington was a Dino Spider, and that was at a car show. But ours is Verde Scuro (dark green) with vanity plate VA BENE.

Others in the area... I drove one that was for sale in Owen County about a year ago -- was in decent enough shape for a project car, but way overpriced for a project car. I heard that there was a guy in Versailles who used to have a Fiat shop, but has gotten rid of nearly everything.

Saturday night, I posted that I never see Fiats around here... Sunday, my wife and I went for a drive, and saw 2!

In frankfort, a later (alfa-doorhandle) car in light blue metallic, maybe with turbo wheels? Also a salmon-colored chrome bumper car, which has been parked in the same spot for ~8 years, just north of the capital.

Let's see, if I can make things happen by saying they never happen, how about... "I never get large amounts of money in the mail" or "no one ever offers me free cars" ;-)

Hey there racydave! Indy isn't too far away.

Yesterday, my wife was driving her car and spotted a bright green 124 Spider -- they're really coming out of the woodwork here in Lexington! Wish I'd seen it -- I love the bright '70s colors Fiat used.
