With the latest announcement from Sergio, expect the Alfa reputation to become completely trashed. If you can't sell Chryslers in the US, rebadge them and foist them upon unsuspecting Europeans.

By the end of the month, Marchionne wants to decide how the new company will manage its Dodge and Alfa Romeo brands, which he sees as American and European counterparts.

One solution might be to sell Alfa Romeo models under the Dodge brand in the United States and Dodge cars as Alfa Romeos in Europe, Marchionne said.

Chrysler should be able to take control of its European dealer network by September, Marchionne added.

“Dodge is the American muscle car, while Alfa Romeo is the European muscle car. How we dovetail these two brands is very important,” Marchionne told Autocar. “The level of competition between these two brands is tremendous because they are both going after the same customer.”

To anyone under 60, Alfa has no reputation here. And to anyone over 60 and the 10 members of the Alfa club, they are probably not going to buy one, and are more interested in Walmart having a sale on Depends.

The Alfa club has a much more loyal following than any Fiat club, and the Alfa forum regularly gets over 200 posts a day, so I think you've underestimated the following here in the US. I thought the quote was funny in that I just can't imagine anyone in Europe buying a rebadged Chrysler. I wonder which model will become the Alfa Volare or K Car.
The Alfa V6 is a hemi, and I'd rather have one of those than the Chrys version. In fact, I do have one that I'm planning on stuffing into my 73 coupe at some point

I've owned 2 Alfas in my time. They are truly fantastic cars to drive. They corner as if on rails and the acceleration is mind blowing for a 4 cylinder car. And, of course, they have that distinctive rasp coming out of the exhaust pipe. Only problem being, they had a reliability issue.
As for Chrysler, very limited experience. I was in the market for a 4 wheel drive a few years back, so I was loaned a Jeep Cherokee by the local dealer. 4 litre lump under the bonnet which I thought would go like stink. It didn't. I struggled to top 85. And I hated the slush box.
Then I tried the diesel version. I drove out of the dealership, got onto a decent stretch of road, turned around, and drove it straight back. It was like driving a tractor.
I think Chrysler are in for an up hill battle on this one.
