Hello from Edmonton

Post by KJet540 »

Hello from Edmonton, AB. My Fiat experience comprises of 2 cars. My first was a 1981 Spider 2000 and my second a 1979 X1/9. My Spider was my only mode of transportation at the time and I only had basic knowledge of mechanical stuff. Needless to say that car spent more time on blocks in the garage than it did on the street. When it ran it was great but I needed something a little more reliable. My next venture in to Fiat land was a 1979 X1/9. I had the car for 3 months before the transmission seized up on me at 120Kph sending me for quite the ride! Since then, I joined the Army, became a mechanic, and now work for BMW. I am now ready for another Fiat! I want another Spider so I will be taking my time to find a good one. I look forward to being on this board!

Thanks!
Mark

Welcome Mark. I hail from Victoria, but Alberta was my stomping grounds for most of my life. My son is currently working in Edmonton, and my folks are in Red Deer, my daughter and her family in Calgary. I understand you have a good Italian auto shop there in Edmonton. At least when I talked to them on the phone, they were very pleasant to deal with. So you are off to a great start! You will enjoy this forum, a very active one! And some of the members have a great sense of humor too  Just don't spend more time on the forum than you do working on/driving your future spider! Some of us do...

So, I guess I should say welcome, then how's the Eskimos looking this year? :P
I do a lot of business with Ital motors up there, very knowledgeable,If you check their website,I believe they have a couple of spiders for sale. You would know then they would be very well sorted out.
Good luck with your quest,it can be an exciting part of the process, and when you done please do post a photo or three on your find.

Hello, and welcome to the forum. Be sure to keep us posted on how your search is going.
I think now that you are a mechanic you're going to be surprised how easy these cars really are to work on. Of course, the internet helps, you can always find help here when you need it.

Thanks for the warm welcome! The Esk's took alot of the Riders talent this year so they are looking pretty good. I actually bought my X1/9 from Fred and Gord at Ital Motors. That shop is amazing! When you think of what a foreign car garage would look like in the 60's, that's it! I'm gonna go down there this weekend and have a look.

Thanks again!

Say hi to Fred and Mario for me. Also give Fred a pat on the back for breaking his 14 year record at the Knox MT. hill climb in Kelowna in May. That AR GT JR does'nt look like much but it sure goes.

Mark,

Welcome to the site and good luck on your search. So given your current occupation, does that mean I can exchange Fiat advice for some help with my BMW when I need it? :P
