What a dilemma!
Now I've done it. As most of you know, we've been working on building a racer out of a 72 Spider. I even have the coolest rotisseri for it! A deal has come along that was too hard to pass up. Check out what I'm picking up Sunday:
Anyone have suggestions on what to do with the Spider I've stripped?

Keep going? Like most things, race cars are better owned in pairs even if a little mismatched.
Looks to be fun. Good luck.

well, i'm just a little jealous, but I think you should still build the Spider. There are so few of them being raced anymore it would be cool to get another one on the track

I know the x-1/9's handle better, but I just like the style of the Spider so much better & the x looks hard to work on. For a dedicated track car the x would be hard to beat, though.

That racing 1608 you are building would look awful nice in that X with a pair of DCNFs on it!

I feel the same way about the Spider. I'll see if I can store the body somewhere until Ron has more time to work on it. With Amber's gokart racing and the business, the only time we can work on it is in the winter and I'll be too damn old to go racing if I waited to get that car ready! This car is complete and has already passed tech inspection for 2009 and it even comes with it's own trailer.
Jeff, Ron was talking about building the 1608 race engine to put in the X but will it bolt up to the tranny? Talk about a tight fit!

if it takes too long to complete the Spider, you will qualify for the SRS (senior racing series) sponsored by AARP

So now she'll show up for the rally next weekend in a fully-prepped race car, driving a route she created

Re: What a dilemma!
Denise - One of the coolest Xs (as in car - not wife) I ever saw belonged to Tom Mulhall. It had a full house 2.0L in it (running DCNFs), and it was a screamer. I remember he had to some bracing in the engine bay, but I don't remember what else he had to do. And lets not forget Merkel's 850 spider with a 1608 in it. Will it go in there and hook to the tranny? For sure.

Re: What a dilemma!
Somewhere I saw a badass x1/9 with a built t/c. There were videos & pictures of the build, but I can't find it again to save my life. I did find this pretty fast x1/9:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCg5QW4m8Nk

Re: What a dilemma!
Like we talked about, the fact that the X has a current logbook and that you need track time to get a license...no brainer.Shelve the Spider for now and concentrate on the X. You also gotta factor in that the Spider is a long way from being 'track ready'.And...yes,I am still jealous

Re: What a dilemma!
If the Lemons race is the one where they bash a car that obviously does not meet the criteria, I would go with the Spider!
