Virgin Fiat owners from northwest WI.

Post by dmzracing »

Just picked up a 1980 Spider 2000 about 6 hours ago that needs restoring and are diving in head first. Have already found a few parts cars, but are not sure as to which ones are compatible with ours. Any input as to which years will have parts that are interchangeable would be appreciated. Have read some good posts on this website and we think it will be a valuable tool in our rebuilding process.

Welcome to the site and congrats on your purchase! The 1980 was a transitional year. If it is a carburated car, the 79 is compatible for fuel items. Other than that, I believe 79-83 should be compatible for most everything else. Many parts are also interchangeable with the earlier years.

Welcome to the forum. The 2 litre engine came out in 79, which is a taller block, so some of the engine parts are particular to the later cars, but as Denise says, a lot of parts are interchangable. For some reason I can't fathom, taking the bumpers off and even putting the ealier style blade bumpers on is a popular swap-out. The dash changed slightly at the steering column area at about 77 if I'm not mistaken also.

Hello and welcome. I also have an 80 spider and it's fuel injected. Just starting on the restoration. You've found a good site, the members here are very helpful and sometimes you get a good laugh or two. Good luck on your project.
