Hello, from Seattle!

Post by dlre77Fiat »

Just purchased a 77 Spider, never owned one before but have always wanted one.
I'm 6'3 and never thought I could fit comfortable in one till I sat in the one.
I've read some of the blogs and its nice to see if someone can give ya some info on something before ya
take it down to Tony's:) So here's my question, blinkers were working just fine, then all of sudden nothing,
I checked the fuse to find that the previous owner had a 25 amp in it, the fuse was not blown, and I replaced it with an
8 amp! I also noticed that when the blinkers were working the blinker switch would not return after going around a corner,
don't know if that has anything to do with it?Image

welcome to the site.

one of the first things you're gonna wanna get is a shop manual and an electrical diagram for your car.

i recommend you download this diagram:
http://artigue.com/fiat/pubs/Wiring_1977.pdf

generally the #1 thing to go on the electrical circuits is the connectivity for the grounds. find all of your grounding pods and thoroughly clean and tighten them... throughout the car.

next, install a second grounding strap out of 4 or 6 gauge wire and secure between the engine block and the inner fender.

third, disconnect the battery and remove all of the fuses. clean the fuse connectors and install brand new fresh fuses in all slots, to the correct amperage specified in the wiring diagram or shop manual.

if all four turn bulbs do not operate... do the emergency flashers work? the flasher switch is a common point, and may have failed or the contacts there are loose and corroded. also, replace all four bulbs with new bulbs.

the return feature of the blinker paddle is usually a different issue. do you have the stock steering wheel, or has someone replaced the wheel?

Hello up there in Seattle. Welcome to the site.
The return mechanism for the blinker arm is a little pin that sets into a slot on the steering wheel hub. Pop off your horn button and remove the large nut to remove the steering wheel and hub to see if this pin is broken. If it's OK it may be that it didn't get put in the correct orientation with the slot when a PO had the steering wheel off at some point. If it's broken you'll need to replace the column switch unit which come up pretty regularly on Ebay, or post for one in the "parts wanted" section of the forum.
