This is from an article on MSN. Very revealing as to what the general public thinks of used car values; Big 3 cars dominate the worst values while "foreign" cars have the best resale
new car value retention
Re: new car value retention
Interesting Mark. I wonder wher they get the numbers from? msrp verses blue book? It is inaccurate in relation to what I see here. The domestics resale is poor compared to imports, but not that bad.
Re: new car value retention
gotta agree with greg. bet those are national numbers, since they won't fit here either on a regional basis. for better or worse, southern michigan is predominately Detroit iron enthusiests all the way, especially in KOW KUNTRY; where the Pickup truck is king, and the more Skoal cans you can cram into your glove box, the better.
Re: new car value retention
Yeah Mike if there is someplace to find 3 year old cars for 28% of new, we can buy them up and send them your way to resell for big profits. I need another income stream just for these spider parts.
Re: new car value retention
i have not noticed many cars moving off the lots around here... although i see many more used car lots popping up all around.
i guess if you can't get a real job, the next best thing is to turn your front lawn into a used car lot. which is what my neighbors say every time the girls gather for a family thing at my house.

Re: new car value retention
I have a suspicion as to why these have such a low resale;
Ford Freestar - Same model in production for a long, long time.
For Taurus - Same model that used to be Ford 500, just renamed Taurus with a few minor changes
Sebring - Too many rental cars sold at low dollar
Chev Uplander - Same model in production for a long, long time.
Pontiac Montana - Same car as the Chev Uplander, which is the same model in production for a long, long time.
Barack Hussein Obama's solution is to give the mfrs billions, then have Mexico, Canada, and/or China build the car as an American car. Then increase our taxes.

Re: new car value retention
You have a point for the low resale value. Since my last new car was in 1987 and I am now out of the car business, I don't pay attention to the new models coming out. Part of it may also be due to market saturation...I don't know.BurbankJalopy wrote:I have a suspicion as to why these have such a low resale;

Although many may share your point of view, there may be others that take offense to the tone of some of your posts. This is just a friendly "heads up". If you've noticed, even our most heated discussions aren't too heated here.BurbankJalopy wrote:Barack Hussein Obama's solution is to give the mfrs billions, then have Mexico, Canada, and/or China build the car as an American car. Re: new car value retention
the point I was trying to make by posting that list was what the general public feels those cars are worth. As we've all discussed here many times, the value of anything is what someone will pay for it. Those cars/trucks may be fine vehicles, just don't hope to recoup any of your investment when you try to sell them

Re: new car value retention
And that is why I wait til my GM vehicle is a few years old before I buy it! You know, it really does work in my best interest since I get a decent vehicle without paying an arm and leg. I haven't had a car payment since....1988, when I totalled my brand new car.
