They keep pulling me back

Post by Gundy »

Hi all. Just bought a 1974 124 Spyder. Red..of course.
Several decades ago I owned a 1975 and have always regretted selling it back in the 80s.
I wandered through other cars over the years and decided I needed a new rag top.
I bought a highly modified Bugeye for fun driving and found to my wife's dismay
that it's just too "crude" for her to enjoy driving. Loud and no low end torque
are just not her cup of tea.
Enter the 124. She LOVES it.....and so do I. So many fond memories from our earlier
one came pouring back to us.
Anyway, It's so nice to have a forum like this where I can learn from others as I
always wrench my own and even did the engine rebuild on our last one.
Heads up .....I'll ask some real "green" questions and have so much to learn.

Welcome to the forum Gundy.
I'm curious, did you drive the car cross country getting it home? Gutsy, if so.

Oh Lord no! I had it shipped via an enclosed double deck transport.
Check out the load he was hauling when he got to Pumpkintown.

Nice pictures of what appears to be a nicely kept spider. It looks strangely familiar. Did you buy it from someone who was involved with one of the Fiat enthusiast forums?

Anyway, . . . Pumpkintown. I was just over near there last week, and spent several days in Pickens County. And managed to get a speeding ticket in Liberty, not far from you. The highway patrol is clever with their speed traps there. We were just cruising around for a Sunday drive in the back country at a pleasant 55 mph, and didn't notice that we stumbled into a 45mph zone. Any ideas for how to dismiss the ticket??

Have fun with your new toy!

Sorry about the "welcoming committee" encounter. Dismissal is hard to achieve but a reduction
to 2 points and smaller fine are very possible.
If you have trouble in getting those results I can help. Funny thing is, when I was the new local
Prosecutor, Liberty police would drive right on my Spyder's bumper when passing through
there in the evenings. Hoping for a panic I guess. We call it Blue Light Fever.
After the Chief meet me and I explained the next time it happened I'd slam on brakes
the practice stopped.
I bought the car from a guy near Atlanta. A racing guy. It was restored a few years back
before he got it and he "finished" the job. New interior, low mileage de-smogged engine,
new clutch etc, shocks, brakes, starter, pinion and all new seals. LOL..he said it doesn't leak.
I'll believe THAT when I see it. I've got cardboard handy in any event.
Did you get a chance to drive Highway #276. SWEET hill climb road. There are several neat roads
for a Sport's car to enjoy hereabouts.
What the heck were you doing in Pickens?

I was in Clemson visiting friends and family (was raised there). All my brothers and sisters, cousins, aunts, uncles, etc. swooped in from near and far to give my parents a surprise 80th birtday reunion celebration. I was hoping to visit Fiat acquaintances in the area, also, but there wasn't any time for it. Family and old friends come first.

We did get a chance to drive scenic highway 11 a bit, around the West Union and Walhalla area, but not up 276 to Ceasar's Head. Hopefully, we'll get a chance to do that another time.

Please contact me off line if you are serious about possibly helping me reduce the severity of the speeding ticket. I would very much appreciate it. It may be too late though. I'll check with Maureen, but I think that she already sent in the payment.
