Looking at getting into owning a Fiat. My dad worked on em all, Fiat, MG, Jag VW. Really like the looks of the 124. So, starting the shopping process. Yah, you gotta touchy feely them (like every other "sports car"). Wont be my daily drive so no biggy. Just trying to get up to speed on what to look for.
thanks

Re: Michigan Fiat...almost
Hello out there in Michigan! Welcome to the forum.
Just about anything that needs fixing on one of our cars is doable, and not too expensively at that. Except rust. These cars are unibody, so check out the undercarriage real well. The front crossmember, shock towers, and so forth. Floor pans and body panels can be replaced, but bad "bones" are a deal killer.
Good luck, keep us posted on your search.

I am surprised at how much is available for these cars. I've been doing some looking and there doesn't seem to be much you can't get for them.
Copy on the rust issue. Rust repair doesnt scare me but its not worth the hassle if you can get a clean car. Or mostly clean, especially on a uni-body.
Given the current auto industry status and the crazy union folk, driving a forieng car may be hazardous but what the heck.
thanks again.

WHEN will you be serious in pulling the trigger? days, weeks, months
WHERE would you consider purchasing? internet, or visual inspection only
WHY ? oops.. i already know that one.

Sorry. Haven't looked at the site is a bit. I'm in Afghanistan at the moment (contractor) so it will be a bit before I can actually buy. Been doing the internet thing looking at what's available.
Are there any clubs in Michigan? Fiat isn't exactly a Chevy so I'm thinking maybe not. Course, the way things are going looks there might be Chrysler/Fiats down the road.
thanks
Ken
