Are there such thing, as "Performance headgasket", thinner to improve compression?

Can't imagine that a head gasket could be thinned enough to still be reliable and make a real difference to compression. I think any "performance headgaskets" that you may see advertised refer to the durabilty of the gasket. may even be a little thicker.

there are multi-layer steel head gaskets that are thinner than the oem gasket. This would give a slight compression bump and this type of gasket is preferred for iron block aluminum head motors. The only problem is that they cost about $100 each

Better the 1800 head on a 2000 or the multi-layer headgasket?\

Tako, Goetze, and Fel-Pro to name a few. I've heard good things about the Goetze and the Fel-Pro but have never used them. I actually may have a Goetze, but can't tell for sure as it only has a single letter "G" printed on it, no other marks anywhere else. I ordered a "performance" head gasket from Bayless a little while ago. It is about 2mm thick compared to the other gaskets I have that around 1.4mm-1.5mm thick. Also the Bayless gasket does not have the pre-formed silicone seal around it on either side.

I am going with a 1592cc head (same head cc as 1.8) on a 2L block and wonder about the thicker gasket lowering the compression I'm trying to increase with the head/block combo. .5mm seams like enough to reduce the compression.

You can get Fel-Pro gaskets from Parts America or Autozone. Check their websites and enter your vehicle information. Of course the usual vendors have theirs, but they are usually Tako brand. Bayless sells their thick "performance" head gasket for $19.95. I have an extra head gasket, its not Tako, but I'm not sure what manufacturer it is.

The 1592 head is a rare head due to the limited production run, but it has the same head space as a 1.8 head so there is no compression increase, however the benefits are that it does not have the air injection ports which makes it a cleaner head, and the water jacket is bigger around #3 which equals more cooling, resulting in less head gasket failures that typically happen between cylinders 3 and 4. (or so I've read)

Try Rockauto.com and get the fel-Pro gastket this one of the best.

isnt there an issue with water passage or something when using a 1608 head on a 2 liter? if not i have a 1608 head and a complete 1608 motor available. od, the 1592 head is similar to the 1800, i forgot. a

lol i did look hard took me 20 min anyway , 117,81€ is indeed pricey for a headgasket ,1.1 mm thick , would that increase compression you think ? Has anyone has experiences whith those ?
