FLU Founder give Fiat interview on Fox
FLU Founder give Fiat interview on Fox
well, dispite the host being a class A jerk, i believe that Bobb Rayner did very well for the North American Fiat community.
His words to us were:
"After nearly three decades of carrying the flag in North America in relative automotive obscurity, we Fiat Freaks may finally be entering our day in the sun.
Finally....street creds! Television news networks now want to talk to us! Imagine that. There's a hell of a story behind this. For now, just click on the link. Watch. Enjoy. "

Re: FLU Founder give Fiat interview on Fox
Wow- the host was a complete &%#()^! I hated how he kept on rudely interrupting him and would not let him finish speaking. So who's currently bankrupt and who's not?
Good job Bobb for keeping your cool with a smile on your face!
Funny - I was in the waiting room at a Chrysler-Dodge dealership when Pres. Obama gave his speech this week. Yes, I have a Chrysler company car (with 8 safety recalls so far). They didn't seem to care or even watch the TV. I glanced over into the show room void of any life - only a few cubicals with two bored salesmen playing on their Iphones. The cars featured on the show room floor were HUGE monstrous trucks & jeeps. The pick up was larger than any Dodge Ram I have ever seen- it was enormous. Would anyone actually need a truck like this? Not likely in the area as it's known as the rich, Mercedes driving housewives or Microsoft land. Most of the Microsoft execs here drive new Ferrari's and were at our show last week.

Re: FLU Founder give Fiat interview on Fox
The Fox "interview" is a great example of why one never, ever appears willingly on television. No matter what you do or say, the host on contemporary network TV will advance his point at your expense. That's why corporations and organizations have PR people; to deal with those chumps.
FLU doesn't "represent" Fiat owners and enthusiasts in North America. I thought Rayner did a terrible job; a typical amateur playing into the hands of an expert.

Well, there is some merit in what you say. The host will rake you over the coals. But I, and lots of others, thought Bobb did just fine. In fact, I bet no one better could have stepped up to the plate.baltobernie wrote:The Fox "interview" is a great example of why one never, ever appears willingly on television. Cavuto was already bad mouthing Fiat. At least Bobb gave a counterpoint.
And as far as not representing Fiat owners, to the extent anyone can lay such a claim, it would be Bobb and FLU.

Uninformed and ignorant the 'pinnacle of the fat American syndrome' - that’s what other countries love to hate!!
The number of American designed cars that are styling disasters compared to the Fiat’s that a sold with world wide appeal, he’s got to be joking.
2 cents worth, and that’s all his commentary in worth.

I don't think the host deserves your two cents Adrians. he was OVERLY obnoxious.
Dispite the symantics of the words, Bernie... i think Bobb did a very fine job not succumbing to the jabs and taunts of the playground bully. I believe Bobb represented our community a hell of a lot better than I could under that intense pressure. I'd have like to reach through the T.V. monitor and punch that jerk.

I thought Bobb did pretty good, if for no other reason that he came across as an intelligent nice guy and the host came across as an ignorant jerk. The host didn't have an facts, just his opinion, which is normal for Fox.

Re: FLU Founder give Fiat interview on Fox
Bobb Raynor is the founder of FLU? I did not know that. Back in '81 or '82, I was 17 or 18 and on my second fiat, a 1975 128SL. I was really interested in fiat while everyone I knew was crazy for muscle cars. Now, you did not see so many fiats around here and never had I seen another SL, until one day I spotted an orange 74 128SL parked outside a house that had been divided into apartments. I knocked on a couple doors, asking " is that your car" until one guy said "yes that's my car - hi my name is Bobb". He was very pleasant to a strange kid knocking on the door for no good reason. I can't imagine that Bobb would remember me but we talked fiats on a few occasions back then. I was amazed with his knowledge and enthusiasm for fiat. He gave me some advice helping with problems that had local mechanics stumped. At some point soon thereafter he moved away. After 3 or 4 more fiats later, but never a 124 spider, my interest shifted to Jaguar, and I never heard of Bobb again. -----------Fast forward to summer of 08. The local news is on in my house and I hear the announcer say something like "fiat enthusiasts from all over converge on the Poconos". Well that's something you don't hear everyday so I start paying attention and there is Bobb being interviewed about the freakout. I Didn't know there was a freakout, or a FLU, or anything like that, but it got me thinking I should keep my eye out for a spider like I had wanted so badly all those years ago. Well I got one a couple months ago, now parts are all over the place, I'm greasy most of the time and life is good. who says you can't go back.

Re: FLU Founder give Fiat interview on Fox
Wow, Cavuto had his agenda picked out before the interview even began. From the way he spoke about Fiats, I seriously doubt he has driven any. Bobb did an admirable job of getting his message across without taking the bait to start an argument.
We need to all keep emailing Fox and insist that they come and cover FFO in Valley Forge. Their tagline is "fair and balanced". It would be in everyone's best interest for them to have a chance to speak with some knowledge behind their words instead of only outdated opinion.

I think he's right, too small for me also. they are a young chick car or a commuter car...but not for me.

I guess we'll call Fiats, Pasta Burners.

Re: FLU Founder give Fiat interview on Fox
Kudos to Bobb for keeping his cool and at least trying to support FLU and Fiat. Good grief, could that guy be any more obnoxious? I'm with you about wanting to reach into the tv screen and throttling that jerk, Mike.
Pope, you can please some of the people some of the time, but nobody can please all the people all the time. I think Fiat has cars that many will appreciate. I, for one, will be buying one if they are available, but Ron will probably not be impressed. In fact, I doubt he'll even ride in it if it's more than a 10 mile trip, but I've got a slew of other vehicles he can ride in.
