Headlights from Hell

Post by hnraney »

We have a 1980 Spider and the problem is the headlights will not go from High to Low. They go from High to off. I have seen the messages about the dim headlights and how to fix that problem, is that the same fix for this problem or is it in the high & low beam switch? It is getting close to inspection time and there is no way in this world it would pass, and I am not sure how it passed last year for the previous owner! :D

Thanks,

there are separate fuses for high and low beam. If those are okay I'd check the dimmer switch. Both low beams could be burned out, if the fuses are good, check for power to the lamps

Don't take this wrong. My wife came home and told me she lost her low beam lights. I checked and sure enough she had no low beams just high. After checking a few things I checked the bulbs and both bulbs were bad. She was probably driving with one light out for some time and didn't know it till both were bad. Fuses E & F are you low beam fuses. Under the hood drivers side there is a 2 pin connector with Gray/blk and green/blk wires feeding the headlight. Near the windshield washer bottle. You can check there if you have a troubleshooting light or voltmeter. The gray/black wire is the low beam.
