I have a 1978 Fiat Spider and only one set of points will fire.
I replaced the Ignition Mode Relay and it did not correct the problem.
On the Wiring Diagram it also shows a ignition Mode Relay Thermo Switch 18/4 that I have not replace.
Can some one give me some advice on this problem
Thanks PC
POINTS WILL NOT FIRE
only one set of points work at any given time. Many people have bypassed the switching system and just run the one set of points. I've done that on my car and left the 2nd set in place as a spare. It came in handy when the condensor failed, I just swapped the wire to the other set and was back on the road in about 5 mins.
Points will not fire
Mark thanks very much for your reply. I switched the green wire that has voltage going into the Distributor to the other set of points and it still will not start.
The last time it started it sounded like it was only running on two cylinders and then it would not start again.
I checked the two green wires that comes from the Ignition Mode Relay and only one had voltage when the Ignition Switch was turned on.
I replaced the Ignition Mode Relay with a new one and no results.
Could the problem be the Ignition Mode Relay Thermo Switch that is located between the Fuse Box and the Ignition Mode Relay? I can not find where the Themo Switch is located on the auto.
If the Thermo Switch is the problem why would one of the green wires still have voltage on it? THanks PC

Thanks again to Mark for explaning that only one set of points fire at a time and how they work.
I did not have Ignition problems after all and after replacing the Spark Plugs it is running great.
