That's very sad news LD. I hope better times are just ahead, for everyone.

What next? I guess they need to shorten the name of the state from four syllables to one syllable so that we reduce the carbon footprint of our speech. It requires less breathing to say "Cal" instead of the long version "California". All that extra CO2 must be contributing to global warming -- militant environmentalism running amok!

First off. Gopapa! I'm wounded by your news.

I lost my job a while back, and feel the crunch. Happily my circumstances haven't forced the sale of my beloved Fiat.

Now to address the paint color issue. The whole thing is an exaggeration of a rumor of some speculation. It isn't going to happen.

But keep up the diligence on the smog laws!

Ryan, i think your going to have to Google the CARB legislation. Phase-in starts in 2012, with it mandated in 2016. They are calling for a 20% reflectivity in paint pigments and the paint companies are working on it now with not much success.

This article is poorly done, but seems to imply they've shelved the idea until at least 2015:

http://www.kcra.com/automotive/19032855/detail.html

They never give up. Later in the article is says this:

"The state said consumers should be aware that when it comes to car colors, choosing the right color does make a difference. For example, buying a white car instead of a black car saves about 2 to 3 miles per gallon."

I'd like to see them produce the data that backs this up.

'Da Grump' also proved that you can squeeze 10 extra horsepower out of a motor w/ cigar smoke! He is still around,Mark, as a tuner. And you still never see him without the stub of a cigar jammed in his mouth. What a character.

L.D. it causes me great pain to hear you had to sell your Fiat to please Uncle Sam. I mean sometimes I want to sell mine out of frustration or crush it in anger but that's different. I hope you can remedy that problem in the near future. Please don't abandon the forum because of your current state of Fiat. I heard Mark rarely makes spot checks for proof of ownership in your area. Keep up the good fight man!
