Hello,
First time 1981 Spider 2000 owner. Really enjoying this site. Plenty of useful information. Will post photo's of my rolling restoration asap.

What led to your becoming a Spider owner?

Hi Ron,
Drove one for a weekend in 1981 and always wanted to buy one. Got married, house, kids, college, etc. Never had the spare money. Started looking for one last year and found one locally. It did not run so I bought it for $500.00. Sold the hardtop for $500.00. So the car cost me nothing. FREE!!!! Yahoo!
As the saying goes " Nothing in life is free" Needed a transmission. So of course not only did I buy a used transmission on EBAY (Already installed and works great) I also purchased a 1981 Spider parts car in PA. So I actually own two 1981 Fiat Spiders. Having a blast taking it apart. My running car needs some body repair and a paint job. We shall see how that goes. Started looking on the internet and happened across this site. Lots of useful info here. Thanks, George

Boy I tell you. We just got it up there yesterday. And it was scary. I have to figure a better way to get it down. I think I'll try the hoist on one end and pulleys to the rafters on the other. Instead of using the cinders blocks and jack stands. By the way George, I live in Franklinville NJ.

Actually I own two 1981 Fiat Spiders. One in the garage and a parts car (barn Find) that I picked up in PA. I am in the process of taking the parts car apart in my driveway. Having a great time doing it too. Getting ready to pull the engine and transmission. BTW I 'm up in Freehold, NJ. George

Okay George,
Your about a hour fifteen north of me. Lanciaf is closer to you. He's from Lawrenceville NJ. Also TonyfromJersey is from Bordentown. I don't have to mess around with my engine for at least a couple of months. I probably won't be driving until next year. But when I do, it's going to look like a new car.

Hello there. I just got my car back from the body shop, looks great but I've got some chores to do on it yet. I'm in Chesterfield, near Bordentown. I will post some pics later this week. I have a great body shop guy, but he's up in the Poconos, probably a 2.5 hour drive from you. Cheap as hell and good work.

Might be time for a get together in a few weeks, when the weather gets a bit warmer. I froze my ass off but had to take it out for a drive today, kids and dog included.

Would love to see an example of his work. I have some rust issues that need attention. Hope to start work on the interior. I only have the seats in it. Last owner put down Dyna Mat over the floor. I have already removed the center console. Had a Fiat Mechanic in Newark install the transmission, new clutch, and change the motor mounts among other things. Ever hear of Colgen Motors in Newark? Weather should warm right up in a week or two. Road trips sounds fine to me. Keep me advised Thanks, George

I will post the pictures later this week, he gave me a nice set of photos that need to be scanned in. His original quote was 1400, ended up at 1650 for extra work. He replaced the rockers (supplied by me), cut out rust around the rear wheel arches and replaced the metal, stripped off tons of bondo, patched some floorboard holes, and fixed numerous other dings, etc. Did some repairs and beefing up of the shock towers. Also put in carpet (supplied by me). Painted red, with 7 coats of clearcoat. It's not a show car, but it looks like a million bucks. He did lots of little extras along the way as well.

A driving tour sounds great in a couple of weeks.
