Re: painless wiring harness
I used one of their "Universal" kits in my '73 Spider. PM me your e-mail address, and I will send you a copy of the article describing the process.
It is not a trivial job, and as Mark suggests, you should carefully evaluate the state of your existing wiring before scrapping it and starting over. Sometimes the "brown wire fix" is enough to restore the car; other times a replacement fuse block will do the trick. An additional test: if this photo doesn't scare you, you may proceed!

Re: painless wiring harness
nothing is hard if you know how to do it. If you tackle this job I suggest you create your own wiring diagram so you can troubleshoot future problems.

i do not see where there is a 69, 1608cc wire harness,
the universal ,? is that like u do your own color code? of is that the same colors that are in the diagram in the books for the 69

Re: painless wiring harness
Jim,
Sent you my article. Nice thing about the Painless product is that it is color-coded and labeled the length of each wire. Colors are duplicated, but wire numbers and descriptions are unique, e.g. #939 fuel gage wire is Pink, and while there are other Pink wires in the harness, the words "939 FUEL GAGE" are marked and repeated every 8" along the entire fuel gage wire.
The tricky part is "translating" Fiat to American. You'll also be crimping hundreds of connections, so you'll need the wrist of a Catholic schoolboy. Read the article and the Painless manual completely and thoroughly make notes and take pictures. Budget 40 hours of actual work time. And of course, once you start, the car is kaput until you finish and troubleshoot.
