Hi!
Hi!
Hello group, I am a new member and in the progress of restoring my 1974 124 Spider. I have had this vehicle for around 15 years just sitting in my garage. Purchased it right after a friend painted it but lost interest in putting it back together. After reinstalling all the non-painted body parts and interior trim I also got it to run, but the car needed so much more. So I just parked it until I had a little more time. Well, those 15 years went real fast and now I got the bug to start working on it again. Last weekend purchased a junk yard motor and trans to overhaul and this weekend I am putting new brake calipers and master cylinder on along with rear suspension bushings. Hope to stay on it this time until I have gone completely though it and making it the car I always wanted. Rick

Welcome Rick! The 74s are scarce and like Mark says, pics would be nice. We're ready to cheer you on and offer advice when needed.

Hi Rick. Huntington Beach must be Spider City! I found mine in your town, and I love it.
We look forward to pictures of your car, and hope you join us in our get-togethers. Don't take another 15 years finishing it though!

Welcome Rick!
I'm right up the street from you in Long Beach .
...and also have a 1974!
Its what all the cool kids are driving these days Best stock engine, and carb set up ever factory built for the Spider!
lol.. that's gonna start a firestorm...
give me a call if you are planning a "car day". There is nothing I like more than to stand around drinking beer, and looking wise while some else learns to curse in Italian!

Re: Hi!
Welcome Rick,
As Ryan stated, the 74's are the ideal year Spider . The 82 owners may disagree, but they are just jealous that they don't have to spend as much time as we do under the hood to keep their cars running! I personally think it all just comes down to "bumper envy" I am neck deep into restoring my 74 - hope that you enjoy working on yours as much as I am enjoying working on mine. As you probably already know, this forum is the place to go for any information that you could possibly need to get your Spider back on the road and keep it there!

Re: Hi!
Hello Rick,
I'm just down the road from you in Lake Forest. I don't have a spider yet, but I'm looking. First wanted to buy one in 1978 when I was in college, but couldn't swing it then, bought a 128 3P instead.

Thanks all
Thanks for the welcome. Here's a couple of photos of my '74 Spider. You may notice there's no fuel door, or trunk key lock making it look very clean. The trunk is operated with a release cable from inside the vehicle and the fuel filler is located in the Trunk.
Last weekend completed replacing all the calipers, brake lines, master cylinder and proportioning valve along with replace the lower strut bar bushings oh yea, and the hand brake cable. The more I look the more I see that needs replacing. Rick
