ignition conversion
Hi, I'm new to the forum so here's my first question. I would like to convert my 75 124 to an electronic ignition. possibly pertronix, I have the dual point S147H distributor. they do not make a conversion for this distro. the only appplication for the conversion is for a single point S147 distributor. could I convert the S147H distro to a single point and then put in the kit or is the housing entirely different and I would have to change to the s147. also what might be involved in converting to single point. thanks, sean

Re: ignition conversion
Here's one possibility:
http://www.advanceddistributors.com/services07.htm
Jeff rebuilt my distributor, installed a Pertronix module, calibrated, recurved and tested the finished unit for $199 including shipping. I suspect he can fit a module to your dual-point unit.

Re: ignition conversion
any special reason you wanna use the pertronix?
lots of guys grab the dist/coil/module from a carb'd '79-80 spider and have lots of success using Fiat used parts. i am willing to bet at a substantially lower cost than a new pertronix setup.

Re: ignition conversion
$150 used with no documentation vs. $200 from a pro? That was an easy choice for me. Plus the most important part of the rebuild; the recurve. (1) Fuel today is vastly different than 1970's gasoline (2) the OEM distributor was curved for smogged motors, not the high-performance one I'm building.

Re: ignition conversion
Bernie, did you have to notch the distributor cap for the pick up wires?

Re: ignition conversion
the cap has a notch that lines up with the hole in the dizzy body for the wires

same notch that the points wires exit
dizzy p/n S144CAY, Pertronix module MR-LS1, but I don't know if Jeff modified it to fit. It doesn't look like anything was filed off or redrilled, but I can't be certain. BTW, he recommends the blue Bosch coil or the Pertronix FlameThrower, ordinary spark plugs at 0.032" and regular plug wires.
Better pix to you later, Mike

Re: ignition conversion
Thanks guys. I was curious and asking was easier than going out to the garage and lifting my cap to see.

Re: ignition conversion
well due to some financial setbacks the electronic conversion is on hold. but I did convert it to single points. the directions are on international-auto.com. just remember to leave the brown wire attached to the coil or you have no tach (oops) anyhow, readjusted the timing and she runs great! can't wait for better weather to go driving.
