Glad to be onboard

Post by spidereuropa83 »

I have an '83 Pininfarina SpiderEuropa that I bought new in 1984. I've had the car garged an inop for many years, but I'm anxious to begin the process of getting her back in shape. The car is in relatively good condition but needs to TLC and I could definetely use some advice from this group.

I'm not sure where to begin the process, but I know she needs new brake lines and a center console. Any advice would be appreciated as well as the name of a reliable and honest mechanic in Utah and the name of the best place to buy parts online.
Thanks, I look forward to participating in the forum.

welcome to the site. There are a couple of other members from Utah, I hope they chime in with some advice. How long has the car been idle? That will determine some of the restoration needs

Welcome Spidereuropa83. What part of the state are you in? I am in the Ogden area. I haven't found a Fiat mechanic as I do my own work. If you need any help feel free to look me up. WarbirdAl aka Alan is also in Utah, I believe he has a contact in the SLC area.

Welcome aboard!
A few of the online vendors that should be able to supply parts are:
http://www.international-auto.com/index.cfm/sc/28950
http://www.fiatparts.com/fparts.htm
http://www.vickauto.com/cgi-bin/store
http://www.fiatplus.com/
And our venerable moderator: http://www.allisonsautomotive.com/
You may have to think about having an upholstery shop recover the console, they are about unobtanium now, unless you get lucky and find someone parting out an 83 or 84. Not sure the 85 would fit yours.
Good luck,
Ron

1. make it run
2. make it stop
3. make it purdy

and of course, before any of that, take lots of pictures; for your restoration journal, and for us.

that center console should be way at the bottom of the list of things to do. pull the spark plugs and hand turn that crankshaft to determine if the engine is seized, then see if she'll run. then get her to stop well before you leave the driveway.

then the fun begins.

we are always here to give you one of the three:
1. good advice mixed in with some corny advice
2. a hard time, at least as much as you can stand
3. shear entertainment and comraderie
