1982 fiat spider 2000 pininfarina

Well,

Im back, said I would look around for something in a bit better shape than the 1976 spider I had found, and later found to have a rotted frame. Well, I found it, 052716 miles on it. shes been garage kept for most of her life until she was left outside for 2 years, rear window ripped and it ruined the rear seat, she has her original wheels, all body and frame is in great shape, but the 76 has a good top and seats, so no problem there, shes going in the garage for ICU&TLC.

I had stopped for coffee one morning, and as I was climbing into the dump truck I saw a car under a cover in a fenced in lot, the owner of the garage was standing near it and I yelled over, HEy!!! is that a fiat spider under that cover??? and he said yea, wanna buy it?? I said sure, can I come take a look, he says come on over!!! so low and behold there she was, he says the owner has been having personal problems and left it here, he dont have time and its in my way. so I got ahold of him on the phone and offered him 500$ 8 months later and alot of phone tag, he had 2nd thoughts at least 3 times, I had gone back and replaced the cover at least 4 times, before every storm, I kind of gave up, 2 days ago he called and said Ok I give up, come get her. well worth the wait.

Protecting the car before you even own it! Pride of pre-ownership, I guess. Well, it's an '82, who could blame you.
Way to go, and good luck with your new car.

Thanks for the kudo's,

I got a few mins this morning to look her over a bit better, I very carefully removed the ice and snow to gently open the hood, very pleased to see the factory stickers intact, paused a bit and pulled the dipstick wiped it on my fingers, nice honey brown oil, all seems to be in very good condition, and original, opened the trunk to find no damage in the battery area, and a battery that's in very good condition, like new, put the charger on it and tested the electrics, all lights work, I turned over the engine, just to make sure she was not frozen or stuck, I will drain the fuel and replace before trying to run her. I also found a list that the mechanic had made of items she would need, master cylinder, clutch cable, all fluids had been changed, and new oil filter, and suggested that the timing belt be replaced, I have to say I am glad the master cyl isnt located where the X1/9's is!!!!!!! the only thing I could not find until I scooped out the snow from the rear seat was the right front marker light, lens is broken but the frame is good, gonna need one of those. I will get pics ASAP.

There is still hope for this country! If every one would just find all of the 82's and restore them we could all live in harmony..

Good job! What color? You said "Ice and snow" was it parked in one of those giant freezer warehouses for food suppliers? I just don't understand how there could be ice and snow on a car? I have three freezers at my house and even if I took her apart I could not fit her in all of them put together?

shes got about 1 inch of frozen snow on her, I had been going before every storm and putting the cover back on, I had given up because the prev owner never followed thru at least 7 times, I didnt want to act toooo hungry and scare him off. damm cagy prev owners. shes going in the garage, right now shes under a cover and the last few days have been extremly cold, I am hoping to get her in tomorrow and thaw her out, shes deep blue, I am ordering the parts needed and hope to get to work on her soon, and shes not in pieces :) youl see when I take some pics. shes SWEET!!!

I didnt know they made 1982 Spiders. I heard a rumor that they are just rebadged 80's. There was a fire on a container ship in 1980 and they threw all these 1980 Spiders overboard. Later they pulled them out of the water and installed new interiors. Took more than a year to do this and rebadged they as 1982's.

I think it was a matter of us not wanting to give you the satisfaction.
