hi everyone, i just got a fiat spider my name is Juan and i am from Colombia, i feel very greatful with my new car and it feels so good to have a car that almost no one has here in my country and specially this beauty!
as a first question have this...
i got 1964 fiat spider, but i am little confused...do not know which model is it, it has a little loggo in front of passenger seat that says fiat 124, it is also at the tail of the car...but i have been looking for photos on internet, and i found it is a fiat spider 1500 or 1600 or can it be a fiat sport spider 124 1500 or 1600?
which is the diference between a spider 1500 and a 1600?

welcome and congratulations on the car. The 124 wasn't being built yet in 1964, so it must be another model. Can you post a picture?

Hello, and welcome to the forum Juan. Congratulations on your new car. The 124 Spider was introduced in 1966. You have quite a rare car there, and it would be great to see pictures of it. It would definately help us identify the model for you.

Hello Juan and welcome.

The Fiat name for the car was "124 Sport Spider", which the public shortened to "Spider" or later "124 Spider" when a completely different 850cc roadster was introduced, so the terms you're using are interchangeable. The numerical designation is the nominal size of the engine. You can read more about the history of the car and identifying marks here:

thanks for the info...check the car

so far i see this car has been modified, it has hard top (do not know if it is original), tires, side mirros, it hasn't chrome at the doors. my goal is to keep it original as i can ;) but first it needs some mechanic threatment, gearbox and transmission have some little problems...after third gear it starts sounding like roooomm rooomm rommmm something similar to a modern car sound running backwards at high speed

Check: here in Colombia to drive a car you need; driver license card, ensurance card, emissions test card saying "passed", technic mechanic test card saying "passed" and a little card we call owner's car card. the owner's car card must say the model of the car, number of passengers including driver, size of the engine, chasis number, motor number, model year, owner's name and some other info. well the owner's car card says it has a 1300cc engine and seats for 4 passenger...i can not imaging for people inside my car, is just for two people and it has a very little space behind driver and passenger seats. so i think the possible option to solve this misterious car identity is saying the owner car card is all messed up so i really need to go to the car transit office to get this solve.
Oh guys i feel kind of ashamed, i am just asking to much questions because i am getting to much doubts....here is the last question...does this car of mine (that you see in the picture) have seat belts?...i need them in order to pass the technic mechanic test!

That is a Cabriolet, probably 1500. They were probably not produced with seat belts. http://flickr.com/photos/wwwfiatspiderc ... 825868527/

I am not sure if the hard top was a factory option or an aftermarket item like our Fiat Spiders. Either way, it is a valuable item. I am assuming that it is a removable hard top.

There is no frame to put in a canvas top?

Dave, where are you at on that 1500 of your. I love that little car.

Wow, you are lucky to have that car. I wish I picked up a "Spider" only to end up with your car. You have any more pics?
