I finally got around to doing the brakes on my '78. I planned to replace the brake hoses as the outer rubber sheath on the hoses was cracked. No leaks were noticed but since I was pulling everything apart it seemed like a good plan to replace the hoses.
I didn't get any farther than the right front wheel because I couldn't figure out how to get the old hose off? Any suggestions? I expected it to just unscrew from the metal brake line but the threads on the metal fitting on the soft hose seem to run right through a bracket that appears to be welded in place. Does this bracket come apart?
Also, should I expect something similar on the rear brake hoses? I haven't gotten there yet.
Thanks for any suggestings.
Brake Hose Replacement
Re: Brake Hose Replacement
there is a u-shaped clip that holds the hose in the bracket. Break the hose/line fitting loose first, it's easier to do if the hose is held securely. Then use some pliers to pull the clip straight out. The rear hoses are held into a bracket that bolts onto the inner shield
Re: Brake Hose Replacement
Thanks Mark! I'll give it a try in the morning. I thought I saw some sort of sliding clip but it was getting pretty dark so I wan't sure.

are you saying that you turn the male threads that are on the hard line rather than turning the hose? Or are you just saying to be sure and securly hold the male threads while turning the hose so as not to twist the hard line?So Cal Mark wrote: Break the hose/line fitting loose first, it's easier to do if the hose is held securely.
Re: Brake Hose Replacement
the nut on the hard line should spin. If it's corroded in place you may be able to spin the hose once the clip is removed and you pull the hose back from the bracket
