I love pictures! Not only the nice Fiat, I like the outdoor views to see how everyone lives, and what their surroundings look like. Choosing a paint color is maddening, but why run when you can walk! I still like the orange, but yellow is cool too! I was looking on-line at paint chips last night... 8)

Welcome to the site! I have to agree that your car looks really nice now. I haven't sold my bike...yet. But I have to admit I am thinking about it. As my kids are growing older they are involved in so many sports/activities I find I have very little time to ride. Probably did not put 150 miles on my bike this year.

Okay racydave and all others here comes some pictures and history from my hometown Strangnas and surrounding area. There is about 15-20000 people in town and about 20000 more in the surrounding areas.

Now to some Strangnas history

The cathedral was built in 1280 on a beautiful spot, on a hill, towering over the city of Strangnas. Strangnas got its city rights in the same year, which makes it one of Sweden's oldest towns. In the Middle Ages Strangnas was among the country's most important towns and the Bishop was the King's representative.

The cathedral knows a lot of Swedish history; and several Swedish kings are buried here.
One nice fact that not even all Swedes know, is that on June 6th 1523 Gustav Vasa was elected king of Sweden at Strangnas Cathedral. This day has still a special meaning because today this day is celebrated as Sweden's National Day.

Gripsholm Castle in Mariefred is our next door neighbor.

Gripsholm castle beautifully situated on the shores of Lake Malaren, next to the village of Mariefred. This is actually not the first castle that was built here. The first castle was built in the second half of the 14th century by Bo Johnsson Grip. And this name also explains part of the name of the castle : Gripsholm. The second part of the name "Holm" means "island", so it actually means Island of Grip.

The castle of Gripsholm is one of the Royal castles in Sweden. This castle started to be build by King Gustav Vasa in 1537 as part of a new system of national defences.

In the castle you can see a lot of Swedish interior design from the 16th to the late 19th century. But the main thing the castle is known for is its great collection of portraits : the Swedish national collection. The number of portraits is huge (the collection has over 4,000 pictures), and it features prominent Swedes from the days of Gustav Vasa until now, you have to know some famous Swedes of course to really appreciate it. But there are a few names that you might know, like Ingrid Bergman and Greta Garbo.

I will certainly let you know if I am chosen to go on the trip. Unfortunately, I have no control over when the trip would take place as well, if I can even go. Wish me luck!
