New guy in Fairview Texas near Dallas

Post by tpw1945 »

In the early 70s I had a Blue 1969 124 Spider, now more than 35 years later I have the bug to find a 1980+ FI 124 Spider.

Welcome to the forum. Your tale is very common around here. So many of us had a Spider in our youth and then decided life was not complete without one later. I didn't discover Spiders until 1980 though. Early 70s makes you a trend setter!
God luck finding just the right one.

Welcome to the site. Some folks prefer the older carbed models for the ease of performance mods. But like you, I prefer the usability, reliability and from-the-factory extra horsepower of the later FI models. Good luck finding the right one. As always, everything is fairly easy to fix with one very notable exception -- rust. You want to run, not walk, away from cars that have and sign of structural rust -- especially up around the front inner fenders and rails.

Found my 82 124 FI Spider no rust, lots of problems . OOPS some rust on both front floors. New top, new interior in progress, wheels restored or replaced. Lots of repairs or replacements done. More to come. The money goes fast and the repairs and restores go slow.

An '82. Great! That year Spider is pretty much universally accepted as the best year ever made. Congratulations on an excellent choice.

and a large groan was heard eminating from south central Michigan......not directed towards Texas, but pointed towards Burt Lancaster's favorite place...

Congratulations TPW on your find. Now, dig out that digital camera and send us some pictures.

What? Did I say something that may not represent a consensus?

my mind is reeling contemplating Burt Lancasters' favorite place :?: Is it geographical or anatomical?

since any other reference to places... (in my post, anyway) referred to geographical locations

i'd say i was hinting towards Lancaster California and not anything biological.
