Hey fiat lovers
Hey fiat lovers
Whats up guys im a fiat owner a beatiful 1979 fiat spider from california ....Great huh no rust Woooot!!! only problem is i have all my shitty emissions to deal with but i finally said the hell with it and i got a new 34 adf on the way and a 1800 manifold the question is my linkage sucks anyone have any ideas on what the best linkage i could get thats pretty much bolt on ...( i dont really want to do all kinds of mods to get it going) thanks guys
Re: Hey fiat lovers
welcome! We need more West Coasters here! Your stock linkage should work okay, although it is a little ugly, perched on top of the cam cover. I haven't had any trouble getting 79s smogged with carb changes, as long as the stock air cleaner is in place and it still looks original. What are you going to do about egr?
Re: Hey fiat lovers
I heard something about the earlier egr's systems wasnt really sure i was gonna try to get an exemption on it im really just taking it as i go and ive been with this shitty carb for way too long tired of it and the system.
Re: Hey fiat lovers
there isn't any way to get an exemption from egr-it came originally on the car. You can install an earlier system, but you'll need to change the exhaust manifold too, or rig up the tubing from the valve into your current manifold. The good part is that under current Calif law, the system doesn't have to work. It just has to be hooked up. It makes it a little hard to get by the Nox standards if the valve isn't working, but not impossible
Re: Hey fiat lovers
Lol the funny thing about all this is i just passed the smog test and im a smog tech with a car that probably does half of the polution in cali LMAO!!
Re: Hey fiat lovers
yes, egr stuff is around depending which intake you get. Most of them have a threaded port on the front side of the manifold for a pipe and banjo fitting. The tube then runs across the top of the engine and mounts the egr in one of two spots; either between the cam covers or off the side of the exhaust cam
Re: Hey fiat lovers
hmmm sounds like im in for a bit of work then do you have any diagrams of what the egr system should look for 1800 set up? you said i hve to change the exhaust for the egr setup can i use the 4-2-1 exhaust manifold for that?

Re: Hey fiat lovers
Welcome to the forum. I can't help you on the carb related questions. I had a '79 in '80, but only for a short while. Got the Spider, got married, got rid of the Spider. Mark has a shop specializing in Fiats, so there's nothing I could add anyway. Good luck on the conversion.

Hey, welcome to the site.
i am a little confused. is the car FROM california, or are you writing from California? if you gotta meet California emmissions, i will stay out of the subsequent conversation.... but if there are no emissions tests that you gotta meet/beat... i can be of help.
I own carbureted and de-smogged 1978 & 1980 Spiders. i've started performance upgrades on the '80.

Re: Hey fiat lovers
thank you all ...my 1979 fiat spider is a california car with california emission requirements im also writing from california and have to abide by cali smog rules ...... i was honostly going to make 2 sets of carb systems to put on the car one for smog and one for me so i got the weber 34 adf with 1800 manifold for upgraded performance there on the way ...hopefully everything goes well but i have pretty much dedicated my funds to the perfection of this car what i didnt know is that its really costing me a leg 2 arms and an eye lid to get all this stuff new. I've owned this car for 9 years and its just now getting close to where id like it and all 9 years the carb was never rite so im thinking extreme thoughts lol. ill keep you guys posted on what happens working on trying to get some pics up here too.
