What a blast! I doubt if this story matches anyone else? Getting out of the Navy in '69, I got a job with a Fiat/Alfa dealer in San Diego. I had almost no automotive knowledge but did OK. I grew to love the Fiat and left with a little used 850 spyder I had [color=yellow]painted canary yellow[/color]. With my first job after college being in Phoenix, I knew I had to get something bigger. I left the Fiat family for awhile, returning when I bought a new '78 124 spyder. I used that vehicle to win friends (including my wife) and loved it until our first child showed the one drawback to the car. Our oldest son had constant reminders that [b][u]he[/u][/b] was the reason we had to give up our Fiat and that eventually, he would have to replace it. Guess which proud parents just got a call from Floriday saying he had found a rebuilt 124!

We are proud and worried. The vehicle is an '80. I still have almost no mechanical knowledge. I hope there is a mental health professional out there who can talk us out of proceding with this.

You came to the wrong place to be talked out of buying a Fiat! Still, there is advice to be had on what to look for when buying one. Have any pics or info about the car?

Not yet. I'm still trying to convince my wife that it makes sense to buy a 25 year old car located in Florida and transport it to Arizona where we will learn to live in it because the repairs will cost about the same as our mortgage!

Welcome aboard! I retired from the Navy in 1972 and immediately went to work with VW as a line mechanic, then service manager. I finally got smart and went into business machine repair (you don't have to crawl around under them).
