Greetings to all from Florida. My 1979 Fiat Spider was originally purchased in 1980 by me. 82,000 miles. It has been out of commissioin for over one year with overheating problems. 2 different mechanics and endless expenses and delay. Am planning on finding a new mechanic and gaining some info on this site to solve the problem. Thank you! Rusty

Welcome, and let us know the symptoms of the overheating issue. I worked on an '81 spider not too long ago that had been to numerous shops to fix an overheating problem, to no avail, and it turned out to be a combination of the wire to the temperature gauge (shorting out), air pockets in the system (common) and the wrong radiator cap (also common).
