Interior rear view mirror

Post by PeterParker »

How do you remove the interior rear view mirror on a 79 Spider? I see no screws or anything that holds the mirror in place. Thanks in advance.

If it's the original mirror, it clips to a peg on the windshield. Replacements are expensive, so I got a 10 buck mirror that glues to the windshield.

Just pull hard, held on with a spring clip. Once removed, there is a post screwed to the windshield frame that can be removed if desired.

One other tip: Don't try to pull the mirror straight off. Grasp with your hand and twist/pull upwards. It's easier with the top down.

It's like the old style beer bottle caps that required an opener. You didn't try to pull the cap straight off, but rather tilted the cap at an angle to get it to pop off. The mirror fastening mechanism is very similar.

Hey all thanks for the information. Thought it may have pulled off but didn't want to chance it. I'd rather ask dumb questions than do something I'd regret. Was thinking of ordering the replacement mirror glass from Autoricambi. Anyone done this? Thanks again in advance.
