Hi everyone,
You guys really saved me ! Lets just say it how it is ! I found all the info I needed and more right here in this forum. So a thousand thank you's. I'm in serious debt to your knowledge and tips. Plus all the documentation on mirafiori and ect.
Here's my status :
Interior : is completely stripped and sent for new leather ( cards, seats and tunnel ) I found clean and rust free floor pans and gave the whole area a good clean and a lick of POR-15 and then covered it all with hush mats. Anyone any good ideas for the insulation for the tunnel ? I cant seem to find a make/supplier which makes them as thick as the original. ( foot note : I will not use POR-15 ever again ! Its lethal )
Electrics : everything works , i found no issues except a faulty horn and 1 fuse was removed by the dealer to stop that blasted relay from chiming but I've since unplugged the relay and replaced all the fuses with fresh ones ( yes, i bought American fuses ) now everything works just dandy.
Dash : I'm missing the 2 small wooden ( Formica ? ) pieces in the middle by the 3 lights and no one sells them separately.. any thoughts ?
Engine : I changed Plugs, Airfilter, Fuel Filter ( I noticed the fuel pours out pretty quick once you remove the hoses to replace the filter and could catch you off guard, speed is the motion) Oil and filter are due this weekend as i needed a oil pan, some stands and a good jack) they have since arrived.
Since then I have given the engine a full clean and its looking pretty good. So much grease and gunk came off it.
FI : Engine started terribly, erratic and seemed to stutter, I cleaned the CSV and checked it. It works fine. After the above service the car started beautifully and now revs happily at 900 RPM) I do not see the revs lowering once the car is warm. (Could this be the fuel injector cleaning fluid in the petrol) The CSV stops after 8 seconds if im not wrong then the revs should lower right ?
Removing the Mass sensor cable on the Airfilter stops the engine, so i reckon no hot wiring to the pump. What should the rpm settle at ? 600 ?
Questions :
On the right hand side of the engine bay, near the hole for the cables of the wiper motor , i found a cable with a strange looking brown bell like connection. I cant work out what its for any ideas ?
What is the copper valve on top of the fuel injection manifold for ?
Can the black canister for the fuel fumes be closed off ? also at the tank ? we don't have emissions tests here for old timers. I might also remove the cat.
How delicate is the windscreen ? i want to remove it but fear it shattering !
Finally my biggest fear ( the cabrio ) I want to remove it but I'm apprehensive regarding how much of a task it is. Any solid tips ?
Ill stop here. I can go on forever. I'm so enjoying working on this car.
I apologize for the lengthy post.
Shaun

"I added one of these from my stud for the air pump to the frame for extra grounding protection. Very cheap and easy addition.

Re: Few Questions and status
I have a 79 2000.
My front end suspension sway bar has two studs/bolts holding it to the frame. The studs extend far enough down that there is room for an extra nut. I put the cable on the stud above the existing nut and put another nut and lock washer to hold the cable in place.
