Aloha from Hawaii

Post by nurflugel9 »

I live in Honolulu on the island of Oahu.
I did a lot of research to find a classic convertible to complement my 2014 Fiat 500L Trekking.
I bought a 1984 Pininfarina Azzurra (Spider) last year from an auction on bringatrailer.com in 2021.
The previous owner had the engine rebuilt in 2020 by Allison's Automotive in Upland, California with 9.8 to 1 compression pistons, an aluminum flywheel and an aluminum radiator.
I returned the car to them and had them work with some companies they know to: reupholster the seats in beige and tan; a beige boot for the convertible top; a waterproof car cover; converted the bumpers to early-type stainless steel mounted on the existing bumper shock absorbers; installed halogen headlights, LED front turn signals and had the large American side marker lights removed, filled in and replaced with European style small LED lights plus the fenders (wings) have been repainted in the black that is the color of the rest of the car.
Allison's also installed a new air conditioner as the original had been removed by a previous owner.
The wheels are currently Monza style 14 x 6,
I brought the car to Hawaii at the end of 12/2021 and have been slowly reading manuals upgrading it, but more often fixing it myself to learn about it.
I have not seen another Fiat 124 Spider on my island since then.
Since then I replaced the existing stock tail light circuit boards with LED compatible ones so all exterior lights are LED.
I have had the clutch replaced after the throwout bearing failed.
I removed the deteriorating underhood insulation mat and the glue used to attach it and will have it repainted in the near future.
Lots of other things to fix, so it is a project car, but it also becomes my daily driver whenever I rent out my 500L.
Happy to be here on the forum and looking forward to participating.

Welcome, and sounds like you have a very nice car! I recall seeing a Fiat spider or two when I was last in Honolulu, but that was in 2016 so either they have disappeared, or I was just lucky to happen across them.

Hi,
late but not too late: the worldwide Spider register just counts 6 cars from Hawaii and only one with a last update within the last 5 years.
Because I got all BaT auctions included, I will already have documented your car for sure.

So can we get the VIN and a new best-of-picture of your car to update the Register entry?
Thanks in advance.

Bye Ralf
