Help! Please
I got this poor neglected Fiat that was tore apart. Transmission in the trunk! drive shaft in the back seat. Found out won't go into 4th gear. Found synchronize out guess the owner though he was Mario and jammed it in to gear. Fix it and the wire that the rats had for supper. But the problem is once it get going it shut down where it's barely moving. but as soon as you turn it off and start it back up it runs fine for a little bit then start the hole processes again. Sent the Air Flow Meter in to Fuel Injection Company out of Cali to be rebuilt. Found bad wiper plate on it. The carbon track was worn off. Check out the throttle plate switch and it's working. Fuel injection pump reads 90 psi with out engine running. coil checks good, module under coil check good by O'Reilly auto parts. Fuel injectors working good nice and clean. Pulled the oxygen sensor and cleaned it. Check timing set to 0 with no vacuum on distributor off number 4 plug. Any ideas? would help.

Re: Help! Please
Sounds like you have quite a journey ahead of you! One of the most important tools you will need in order to get the car back on the road is obtaining a good copy of the factory manual and a wiring diagram. Midwest bayless has a nice selection of manuals.
1. Has the transmission been reassembled?
2. Timing is set at 10 degrees for FI engines.
3. Post pictures if you can.

Re: Help! Please
90 psi sounds high. I believe operating pressure is less than 40psi. Is the fuel filter or lines plugged? Did you try running with the fuel cap loose? Kinda sounds like fuel starvation.

Re: Help! Please
The 90 psi is right off the fuel line coming from the gas tank. so is more of a pressure build up because I had the gauge on the line until it blew off and gas shot out like a fire hose. Never thought it could be fuel starvation. Didn't think the gas tank was that sealed but with the pump sucking fuel out of the tank so fast I see that it could happen. I'll check that out as soon as I get the Air Flow Meter back. Thanks David

Jacob, this is a pretty good troubleshooting guide if you don't have it.

Also be sure to check the rubber hoses are good and rated for that kind of pressure and that proper injection hose clamps were used. Good luck and let us know the outcome.

Re: Help! Please
Along with the many troubleshooting diagnostics others have referenced, check your fuel pressure regulator. The diaphragm on these can go bad. Try putting a fuel pressure gauge in line between the fuel rail and the pressure regulator with a custom connection temporarily. Should be something like 36 to 40 psi after the regulator. Had a similar issue with car stalling after a quick start up because of over fueling. How does your oil smell?
Buon giro a tutti! - enjoy the ride!

tried with gas cap off still lost throttle response. Ether i will have to replace o2 sensor or computer.
