I think this is probably a common problem, but I wasn't able to find a thread dealing with it.
I just bought an 81' which looks and runs great. The only prevalent problem is dealing with the electrical system-- the car simply doesn't get enough energy. When I turn the headlights on I get a red electrical light on my dash, the turn signals slow down considerably, and the light gets brighter as I turn on AC, brakes, etc.
Looking through the forum it sounded like a brown wire fix might deal with the problem, however I just read that by 80 they added a brown wire with the fuel injection. What are my options?
Electrical Light
Re: Electrical Light
start with the basics.
the alternator will only supply XX amps. if it is the correct alternator for your vehicle, it should be a 65 amp. have you checked alternator output with a volt meter or amp meter?
also, even more basic, is the v-belt tight?
then, check all the connections at the alternator and at the battery. are they clean and secure?
brown wire fix will only provide more volts to the ignition switch.... and only if the power is there to be provided.
