Hey guys,
does anybody know which contacts on the lada ignition switches get connected when you turn the key from the ignition on position to the spring loaded start position?
Thanks

Re: Lada switch contacts
Steiny, I'm not sure about the Lada switch, but on my original Sipea switch, turning the key to start connects the 30 terminal (brown wire) to the 50 terminal (red wire to the starter solenoid). All is happiness after that.

Steiny,
I sent you and email. I have the info you need on how the lada switch differs from the Sipea. It is actually posted in the other forum but not easy to find.
cheers

Sure, you can send it my way.
I've never had a Sipea switch, though. Just trying to diagnose my no-crank. 30/I and INT don't really tell me anything

Re: Lada switch contacts
It's all very strange.
Past me was kind of an ass and didn't document what he changed on the car. From what I can recollect:
There is now a relay for the starter solenoid. It is a repurposed pollution. Pin 30 is supply and comes from the cigarette lighter circuit (updated wiring with beefy gauge). 87 goes to the starter solenoid. 85 goes to the switch on the clutch pedal (brake light switch to interrupt ground w/ pedal up). 86 goes to...well that's the kicker. It should go to the ignition switch, but it's a white wire. I'm not an idiot, I don't use white for anything other than ground on a car where white is ground (i.e. this one). It was disconnected after I installed the center console. It can be placed onto the ground pod under the dash, but from the mechanics it would make sense that it was pulled out of the back of the ignition switch.
If I bridge 85 and 87 with a jumper wire, the thing happily cranks and starts. The relay is confirmed good, though. Yesterday I took the ignition switch apart...the thing looks brand new.
Hmmm hmmm hmmm.

Re: Lada switch contacts
I have trouble understanding what switch you are talking about mounted to the clutch pedal. Is it something a previous owner installed so the clutch must be depressed for the cars starter to engage?(brake light switch to interrupt ground w/ pedal up).
I'm pretty sure the brake light switch switches power to the brake lights not a ground. The switch contacts are open when the pedal is up and closed when the pedal is depressed.
It sounds to me like the relay contacts 30 and 87 are connected correctly. The issue is with relay terminals 85 and 86.
Relay terminals 85 and 86 are the relay coil and are not polarity conscious
86 connects to ignition switch terminal 50 and 85 connects to ground. It can do this through the clutch pedal switch or by being connected directly to ground.
Hope this helps

I did that.spider2081 wrote:I have trouble understanding what switch you are talking about mounted to the clutch pedal. Is it something a previous owner installed so the clutch must be depressed for the cars starter to engage?(brake light switch to interrupt ground w/ pedal up).

And yes, working exactly as you described. A $6 Hyundai something or another brake light switch fit perfectly into where the old pollution control switch on the clutch pedal went.
Everything is working now. White wire was supposed to go to terminal 50
Ho boy, a 1978 Fiat where ALL electric work. Don't see that every day. Thanks guys!
