oil leak?
I had my 79 Fiat 124 down for a while, desmogging it, installing headers, replacing intake manifold and carb I just fired it up today since doing the work. There's a major oil leak on the right side front. Looks like oil running out the holes that held the smog pump bracket. Is this possible? If so, is there a certain length bolt I should put in there so I don't restrict oil from going somewhere where it should be going? I also didn't plug the holes in either side of the head that take the exhaust gas from the exhaust manifold to the EGR valve because I figured there should be nothing traveling through there since there's headers on one side and a single plane manifold on the other therefore it's non functional.
Cheers, Warren

Re: oil leak?
Are these holes in the head or in the block?
If oil is really coming out of unused bolt holes, then you would need to use a short bolt and a copper washer or possibly thread sealer.

Drummond, that engine is so clean, spotless! Did you just build it? Running?

Re: oil leak?
Same thing happened on my car... I had an AC compressor bolted to a bracket attached to those holes. Ripped that right off and promptly sprayed oil out of the holes. D’oh! Right now I just have the bracket bolted back on to stop the oil leaking out, but I got some bolts and copper washers sitting in the “parts to install” bin in order to save some weight.

Yes just rebuilt 3 years ago
this was a pre start up pre oil pressure spin up before starting. I heard this sputtering noise and looked down oil was pouring from the holes
I couldn't believe they tapped into the oil chamber??

These are good engines all things considered, but this BS is almost unforgivable.

Re: oil leak?
I ran into this after my last rebuild. Also, I found out that the engine bracket has some blind tapped holes and some through holes into the block where hot oil drips down and seeps through these taped srews. I need to clean these out and apply sealant.
