change o to electronic ignition???

I have a 1978 Fiat Spider (just acquired)
Mechanic is suggesting electronic ignition upgrade
Is it worth it??

Probably is. Points require periodic adjustment. With time points wear and the dwell changes. Dwell is amount of time the points are closed. When dwell changes ignition timing changes and the efficiency of the spark also changes. The engine will begin to run poorly. With electronic ignition dwell stay put therefore lower maintenance.

Yes, particularly since this M/Y has the dual points setup, which gives some owners fits.
You've got two ways to approach this: Obtain a salvage Marelli electronic ignition used on later models, or convert your existing dizzy to breakerless with a Pertronix module. The former works great; reliable and O/E. The later keeps the original look of your car, but eliminates the mechanical wear of the points. It does not, however, provide a higher-voltage spark like the Marelli.
